Biography

Born in 1979 in Wippra/Hettstedt, Melanie Bretschneider studies English and American Studies (Language and Culture), Media Studies and Psychology at the University of Potsdam. Between 2003 and 2004 she went abroad to study at the University of Southampton (Great Britain). She acquired professional knowledge e.g. by working in the multimedia editorial office of the broadcasting company Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) between 2002 and 2003. After her stay abroad she worked as a student assistant for translation at the Institute of Psychology, University of Potsdam. Between 2004 and 2005, she also completed two internships at the BMW company in media/video production.



Stefanie Fahrion

Biography
Stefanie Fahrion was born in 1982 in Munich and grew up in New York. She holds a Bachelor's degree from Barnard College, Columbia University with a major in Art History and a minor in Political Science. Recently, she completed her Master's degree in Media and Cultural Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, which focussed on the interpretation of non-western media. Her research interests include the role of media in West Africa, African film, feminist and postcolonial theory.



Jill Scherneck

Biography

Jill Scherneck was born in Berlin. Throughout the years 2000 to 2007, she lived/ studied/worked abroad almost continuously, including in New Zealand, Canada, Serbia and England. She studied Development Studies and International Relations at the University of Sussex in Great Britain, School of Social and Cultural Sciences. In her thesis she analyzed human rights movements against the femicide in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Her main academic interests are gender in peace and security studies, structural analysis of organisations, human rights and civil society movements. Last year she was actively involved with OWEN - mobile Friedensakademie e.V.  Next to being the project coordinator of “Roadmap to 1325- Gender in the European Peace and Security Policy”, she is also working as a Junior Professional at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH.
