The Gunda Werner Doctoral Fellowship |
The Feminist Institute, in cooperation with the Scholarship Department of the Heinrich-Boell-Foundation, regularly awards five doctoral fellowships in conjunction with the Gunda Werner Doctoral Fellowship. The fellows are encouraged to work together and focus their research around a main subject selected by the FI.
The Fellowship is named after the devoted feminist, philosopher, and organizational consultant, Gunda Werner (1952-2000). Gunda Werner was a pioneer in advancing the concept of gender democracy within the Heinrich-Boell-Foundation.
She understood gender democracy as a discursive element of democracy, a continuous open dialogue about equality and participation between gender groups.
The concept of gender democracy was first implemented at the Heinrich-Boell-Foundation, spreading afterwards to organizations in Germany and abroad. Gunda Werner died in 2000 at the age of 48.
Following her legacy, the Fellowship aims to transfer feminist scholarship into political practice. The Fellowship also seeks to support feminist critical theory and the next generation of feminist scholars at German universities.
